Abstract

Objectives: To assess the risk of osteoporotic fractures based on the factors present in the FRAX tool, anthropometric and epidemiological variables in the population of Trindade - Goiás - Brazil. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, by analyzing medical records, with a convenience sample carried out at the Trindade hospital, in the city of Trindade - Goiás, with a descriptive analysis of the data and variables of 1270 patients, without secondary causes. The estimated population is 100,000 inhabitants, with an estimated 10% of elderly people. Results: 1270 individuals participated in the study, of which 86.3% were women participating in the studies, whose average age was 62.08 years (± 12.26), whereas the average age of men was 63.39 (± 13.24). In relation to patients with fragility fractures (n = 337; 26.7%) there was a higher frequency of women (n = 275; 81.6%). Men were more alcoholic than women (p = 0.001). There was no difference in smoking between men and women. In this population of Trindade, the use of corticosteroids was not significant. Family history of fracture was also not significant in this population of Trindade. Of the 1270 patients, 30.1% had osteoporosis and 31.6% osteopenia in the lumbar spine. Conclusion: We conclude that it is necessary to carry out a differentiated approach to elderly women in menopause in relation to the assessment of bone quality through bone densitometry and the risk of fractures through the FRAX Tool, which is easy to apply even in health conditions. basic.
