Abstract

Regular exercise is one of the pillars of healthy living for all age groups: it improves cardiovascular health, blood pressure, controls body weight and supports a healthy immune system. In recent months, the world has seen two pandemics, that of COVID-19 and that of a considerable decrease in the practice of physical activities and an increase in sedentary behavior. Children live a scenario of increasing physical inactivity given the routine limited only to the home environment. There are clear demonstrations that show the link between the practice of physical activity and the improvement of school performance in children, in addition to being a determinant for intellectual growth, it is clearly essential for physical development. The practice of physical activities significantly reduces the risk of viral infections, anxiety levels and minimizes comorbidities linked to Covid-19, such as diabetes and hypertension. The impacts of sedentary lifestyles in the lives of children and adolescents and the benefits of physical activity practice show that it is in the medical interest to encourage and guide the best way for children and adolescents to practice physical activity during the period of social isolation imposed by the pandemic of coronavirus
