Heterotopic ossification associated with osteoporosis and fragility fractures in ppine cord injury patient

Heterotopic ossification is defined as the ectopic formation of bone in soft tissue and forms most frequently around the hips, knees, elbows and shoulders. We report below the case of a paraplegic patient due to spinal cord injury, presenting with osteoporosis and extensive heterotopic ossification of the hips, which evolved after bilateral intertrochanteric fracture with no history of trauma, treated with zoledronic acid.
