Introduction: Gastroparesis is a syndrome characterized by the delayed gastric emptying in the absence of mechanical obstruction of the stomach. The symptoms associated to this condition are common to the different etiologies and include nausea, vomiting, early satiety, postprandial fullness, bloating and abdominal pain. This condition is rare in the general population, but its incidence is increased in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), mainly in those with type 1 DM.
Case report: Case report from a woman, 34, with intense and diffuse abdominal pain, heartburn and persistent vomiting without blood.
Discussion: Clinical condition associated with 21% emptying, with the absence of obstruction in the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and with the difficulty of the glycemic control established the Severe Diabetic Gastroparesis diagnosis. The gastroparesis diagnosis is complicated because of the difficulty of correlating the symptoms and what is found in the complementary exams. For the cases related to diabetes, mainly DM-1, the observation of the glycemic control and of the endoscopy and scintigraphy results may help in the diagnosis.
