Abstract

Introduction: motivation in researching the assessment of pain in the newborn ICU and relief measures and their effectiveness appeared to be noted that there are different forms and scales for this measurement. To assess pain in the newborn ICU and the application of pain relief measures.
Methods: This is a literature survey of integrative analysis with the search conducted in virtual databases in health, specifically in Virtual Health Library - Medicine®. The historic rescue was used printed books and magazines that addressed the issue and make possible a brief account of the evolution measurement of pain in the neonate in ICU environment.
Results: It was found in Scielo 20 articles, Lilacs and Pubmed 35 30, totaling 85 articles related pre-determined keywords. 65 were excluded for not meeting the objectives proposed here are therefore included in this study 20 publications. just emerging from three categories: pain assessment scale; factors affecting the interpretation of pain in newborns by health professionals and application of pain relief measures.
Conclusion: There are several validated scales for assessing pain in neonates and protocols should be implemented in neonatal units for the application of relief measures.
