Abstract

Objective: to analyze the profile of female homicides in Brazil in the last decade. Methods: systematic review of the literature on observational studies on female homicides in Brazil. The following databases were searched: MEDLINE, SciELO and LILACS. Observational studies that reported the profile of female homicides in Brazil, published in English, Spanish or Portuguese, were included; conducted in the last 10 years (2010-2019). Data regarding the authors, year of collection, design, sample number, location and period of the study and profile of female homicides were extracted. Results: The initial search identified 690 records and 16 studies were included in the systematic review. Most studies were ecological using SIM data. The profile of female homicides in Brazil in the last decade was, predominantly, of adolescent and young adult women, of black / brown skin / color, with low and unmarried schooling. Also, it appears that 10.0% to 67.1% occur at home, 13.3% to 39.2% in health facilities from 10.7% to 67.1% in public places; most homicides occur with sharpening objects (firearms). Few studies have investigated variables related to the victims’ history of violence and characteristics of the aggressor. Conclusion: female homicides in the last decade occurred, predominantly, in adolescent and young adult women, of black / brown skin / color, with low and uneducated education. The type of instrument most used was the perfucortante. The present review points to the need for further investigations on homicides in Brazil, including the collection of new variables related to the homicide profile. The information shown in this study provides essential information for programmatic decisions in Brazil and can support actions that contribute to reducing the female mortality rate in the country
