Effects of hypnosis on childbirth pain

Introduction: Hypnosis has a long history in the treatment of pain is one of the recognized techniques for non-pharmacological pain control Hypnosis in obstetrics has been available for over a hundred years, but the development of inhaled anesthetic and chemotherapeutic agents and anesthesia drugs until the nineteenth century led to a decline in its application. Objective: To describe the use of hypnosis as an intervention for pain relief in labor. Methodology: This is an integrative review carried out between 01 and 30 June 2020, based on the recommendations of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA). Results / Final considerations: 149 articles were selected and with the eligibility filters proposed by Prisma, 9 articles remained, composed of cross-sectional studies, clinical trials and systematic review. The main findings are encouraging for the use of hypnosis to contribute positively in improving the experience of childbirth and, particularly, in relieving pain and fear, as a consequence, improving the postpartum period and enabling women to feel more confident and being protagonists in controlling their emotions during childbirth.
