Introduction: Herpes zoster is related to hyperesthesia and difficult pain control in many situations, which can lead the individual affected to post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). Aim: To investigate the efficacy of using ultrasound-guided spinal erect blockade (USEB) to minimize the development of acute pain or PHN in patients with herpes zoster Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted in April 2020, involving the last five years, in the PUBMED database, investigating the application of USEB during the acute phase of herpes zoster or even to prevent PHN. Results: Six studies totaling 41 patients were found, all of which were based on case reports or retrospective analysis of medical records. The published results showed an immediate analgesic effect and decreased PHN in the patients studied. Conclusion: USEB is an easy and safe technique used to control pain in the thoracic region and can be an effective therapeutic option to treat herpes zoster and prevent PHN in the thoracic region. Considering that all articles found are series or case reports, it is important that randomized clinical trials be designed so that the effects of USEB treatment on pain caused by herpes zoster and PHN are more consistently verified.
