Abstract

Iliac vein compression syndrome (ICVS) or Cockett-May-Thurner Syndrome is an uncommon entity related to the vascular system of the left lower limb. It has a higher prevalence in females, in the period from the second to the fourth decade of life. It is an anatomical change in which the course of the right common iliac artery compresses the left common iliac vein. In some individuals, this alteration may present with pain in the left lower limb, unilateral varicose veins, asymmetric edema, vascular ulcers and be related to the appearance of recurrent deep vein thrombosis. These changes need to be recognized and treated in order to avoid potential complications. We report the case of a patient with a complaint of refractory chronic pain in the left knee for 2 years, who underwent an extensive complementary investigation and modulation of the chronic pain condition. After completion, the diagnosis of Cockett-May Thurner syndrome was carried out and with that, the appropriate therapeutic direction was carried out for the case.
