Renal trauma in horseshoe kidney

Horseshoe kidney is probably the most common fusion anomaly of the kidneys. The anomaly consists of two distinct renal masses placed vertically on each side of the midline (the body), connected by their lower poles by an isthmus of fibrous tissue that crosses the midline. Blunt trauma (in which there is no penetration of something in the body, as in a crash) is usually caused by an abrupt deceleration of the human body. Ultrasonography (U.S.) diagnosed 90% of renal trauma, with limitations in characterizing the vascular lesions in most cases. Today, with Doppler echocardiography, vascular lesions have been better assessed. In addition to its diagnostic usefulness, ultrasound can be used following the perirenal fluid collections, renal lacerations treated conservatively and hydronephrosis.
