Abstract

This article contains some reflections on the use of psychotropic medications in Brazil and worldwide and on how it may affect different populations.
Objective: To review the literature on the use of psychotropic medications, to analyze drug purpose and the possible side effects by the use of psychotropics and describe Brazilian authorities drug control policies. Conclusions: Beyond common difficulties in a person’s everyday life, there are repeated professional situations that can cause stress. Finally, some considerations are made about the need of discussing health strategy education as a way to prevent irrational use of such medications.
