Methods: Observational, descriptive and retrospective study. The variables were obtained in Maternity Hospitalizations Notebook, between August 2012 and July 2013. Frequency analysis was realized for all variables.
Results: In the period between August 2012 and July 2013 a total of 1.174 hospitalizations were realized in the Service. There was prevalence of women aging from 20 to 39 years old, with 889 (75.72%) cases. Among the main causes of hospitalization, there was a prevalence of hypertensive diseases, counting 134 (7%) cases, and gestational diabetes, counting 115 (6%) cases. There were also observed 76 cases of abortion processes and 76 cases of molar pregnancy, representing 8% of all the hospitalizations. In relation to delivery route, 337 (68.72%) cases were submitted to cesarean section and 154 (31.28%) cases progressed to vaginal delivery. The newborn’s outcome was considered favorable in the majority of the cases, where 254 (50%) cases were referred to rooming-in.
Conclusions: There was prevalence of hospitalization of young women, carriers of hypertensive disorders and progression to cesarean section. The studies of clinical basis can contribute to determine obstetric hospitalization profile in Brazil and, thus, help the consolidation of obstetric assistance in the country.
