Introduction: AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a retrovirus of the lentivirus family that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), slowly destroying the body’s defense system. The identification and early treatment of pregnant women with HIV is the best way to prevent neonatal infection and also to improve the health of these women. Objective: To evaluate seroprevalence in the HIV rapid test in pregnant women hospitalized for obstetric emergencies (childbirth / abortion). Methods: A cross-sectional study comprised of all women who underwent a rapid anti-HIV test, who were 18 years of age or older, pregnant women hospitalized in the HMDI emergency in Goiânia/Goiás, in labor or in abortion, even though they did not perform prenatal care in the maternity ward. In the period from 08.01.2015 to 03.30.2017. Results: A total of 8.355 pregnant women records (births and abortions) were analyzed in which the rapid HIV test was performed at the moment of admission to the emergency room, of this total 10 patients presented positive serology. Conclusion: The prevalence of pregnant women carriers of the HIV, hospitalized in the obstetric emergency in which the rapid test was performed was 0.11%.
