Abstract

Breast cancer has a great impact on women’s lives due to its high incidence and mortality, with an estimated 66 thousand new cases annually in Brazil, with a mortality rate of around 26% for women and 0.28% for men. Mammography, ultrasound and nuclear magnetic resonance are the diagnostic tests most used in mastology. Ultrasonography is the method of choice to perform guided percutaneous procedures in breast pathologies, due to its practicality and affordable cost. Fine needle aspiration puncture (FNAB) and thick needle biopsy (core biopsy) are the procedures most used in daily practice in breast diseases.
